When I first started hiking, the thought of venturing into the wilderness on my own was downright intimidating. The idea of being far from the safety of civilization, with nothing but a backpack and a trail to guide me, was something I avoided at all costs. I wasn’t sure I had the skills or the mental toughness to handle the unpredictability of nature, and the fear of something going wrong kept me from truly embracing the outdoors.
